Zulmira A. Espinola
LOWELL Zulmira A. (Mendonca) Espinola, 94, of Lowell, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, February 28, 2016, at Northwood Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Arlindo Espinola who died in 2006.
A daughter of the late Francisco Cunha Melo and the late Rosa Augusta (Bettencourt) Melo, she was born November 12, 1921, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, she was raised and educated in Graciosa. In 1968, she moved to the United States with her family, settling in Lowell where she made her home until her passing, making her home in the Back Central Street Neighborhood for more than twenty years before residing in Centralville.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony Parish and cherished time spent with her family and also enjoyed sewing and crocheting.
She is survived by her son, Jose Espinola of Dracut; her daughter, Maria F. Medina and her husband, Virgilio, of Lowell; her grandchildren, Michael M. Medina and his wife, Kerrianne, of Lowell, Dennis M. Medina of Salisbury, and Stacy Turcotte and her husband, Ronnie, of Lowell; and her six great grandchildren.
She was also the grandmother of the late Robert Medina, and was predeceased by all of her siblings.
