William A. Ramsay

Lowell - William A. Ramsay, 78, of Westford, died Friday, February 5, 2010, at Saints Medical Center. He was the widower of the late Marion P. (Neary) Ramsay who died May 2006.

Born May 9, 1931, in Lowell, he was a son of the late Archibald and the late Mary (McCormick) Ramsey, and was educated in the local schools attending St. Peter’s Grammar School and the Butler School. Mr. Ramsay served with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

For the past thirty years, William has made his home in Westford and was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Chelmsford. He worked as a a machine operator for the former Prince Macaroni for over fifteen years, but will be remembered as a well known local barkeeper for Mello’s, The Whipple, and Melanson’s just to name a few of the establishments he worked with.

He enjoyed working around the house and gardening in the yard, but most of all enjoyed spending time with family and especially enjoyed Sunday family dinners.

He is survived by his children, Linda Ramsay of Westford, Joseph ‘Ray’ Ramsay of Dracut, William ‘Bam’ Ramsay of Lowell, James Ramsay of Westford, and Gail Pageau and her husband, Ronald, of Westford; his grandchildren, Melissa Ramsay of Lowell, Donald Ramsay Jr., of New Bedford, James Ramsay Jr. of Ayer, Lance Ramsay of Dracut, Joshua Ramsay of Iowa, and Devin Ramsay, Kaylin Ramsay, and Amber Ramsay all of Westford; a great grandson, Donald Ramsay III of Westford; his sisters, Theresa Kinney of Westford and Phyllis Casaletto of Peabody; his brother, Donald Ramsey of Everett; two family friends, Wendy Tedder of Westford and Marie Paul of Dracut and several nieces and nephews.

He was also the father of the late Donald Ramsay Sr., grandfather of the late Joseph Ramsay Jr., and brother of the late Joseph Ray Ramsey, the late Virginia Nolin, the late Maureen Alchorn, and the late Dorothy Kinney.
