William J. Desmond Jr.
"Beloved Husband, Father and Brother"

LOWELL William J. Desmond Jr., 63, of Lowell, passed away unexpectedly Sunday September 9, 2012 at his home in Centralville. He was the husband of Nancy A. (Stevens) Desmond, with whom they celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary this past May.

Born November 11, 1948, in Albany, NY, he was a son of the late William J. Desmond, and the late Edna I. (Hayes) Desmond. His family moved to Lowell when he was a child where he was educated in the Lowell School System. He then went on to attend barber school and open his own barbershop, 20th Century Style on Alpine Lane in Chelmsford, which he owned and operated until 1998. He later began his work as a bus driver with the Lowell Regional Transportation Authority for the past 14 years.

He enjoyed playing golf, umpiring baseball, darts and skiing. Over his lifetime he was associated with many youth and charitable organizations including Lowell Pop Warner, Owl Diner Charities, Highland Little League, and the Highland Players. He will be remembered fondly by many as the executive chef of "Bill's Saco River Chuckwagon".

He resided in Lowell's Centralville neighborhood, and was a communicant of St. Margaret Church. Besides his wife, Nancy, he is survived by two sons, Jeffrey S. Desmond and Brian J. Desmond both of Lowell; a daughter, Lisa M. Desmond and Rich Demers of Lowell; a sister, Louise Noble and her husband, Robert, of Merrimack, NH; a brother, Wayne Desmond and his wife, Nancy, of Lowell; an aunt, Ruth Grivers of Chelmsford; his in-laws, John Stevens and his wife, Mary, of Dracut, Marilyn Manning and her husband, John of Tyngsboro, and Kenneth Stevens and his wife, Diane of Lowell; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also a brother of the late Leonard Desmond; a brother in law of the late Robert Stevens and the late Edward Stevens.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12. ON THURSDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 8:30 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL (978 OR 800) 458-6816. HIS FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT 9:30 A.M. IN ST. MARGARET PARISH, 374 STEVENS ST. LOWELL, MA. BURIAL IN ST.
