Victor M. ‘Vitin’ Mercado
LOWELL Victor M. ‘Vitin’ Mercado, 73, died Sunday, April 27, 2014, after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Charlotte (Lapierre) Mercado, with whom he would have celebrated their Tenth Wedding Anniversary this coming September.
A son of the late Benigno and the late Petronila (Ortiz) Mercado, he was born June 19, 1940, in Barranquitos, Puerto Rico, and moved to the United States in the 1960’s settling in New York City before moving to Hartford, Connecticut. He then made his home in Lowell until his death.
Mr. Mercado was a member of the Lowell Kingdom Hall, Highland Congregation, and worked as a Certified Machinist in the Lowell area for over twenty years prior to his retirement.
In addition to his wife, Charlotte, he is survived by his children, Raquel Castro and her husband, Jorge, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Elizabeth Mercado and Lourdes Mercado both of Lowell, Jose Mercado and his wife, Melissa, of Pepperell, Carlos Mercado and his wife, Kerrie, of Pepperell, and Wilfredo Mercado, Guilherminia Calheta of Lowell, and his beloved Cathy Santana Mercado and her husband Gregorio of Lowell; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sisters, Laura Diaz of Lowell, Lucy Cruz of Lowell, Anna Curet of Lowell, and Anna Teresa Mercado of Rhode Island; his brothers, Ezekiel Mercado of Lowell, Jorge Mercado of Lowell, and Raphael Mercado of Rhode Island; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by several brothers, and the mother of his children, Candida Mercado; he was the father of the late Victor Mercado Jr, and Juan Mercado; and he was the grandfather of the late James Rivera.
YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30, AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. HIS FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT THE FUNERAL HOME ON THURSDAY, MAY 1, AT 10 A.M. BURIAL IN ST. MARY CEMETERY.
