Richard J. ‘Dick’ Toohey
Beloved Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, and Brother
LOWELL Richard J. ‘Dick’ Toohey, 82, of Lowell, formerly of Lawrence, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Radius Northwood Health Care Center after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family.
A son of the late Thomas and the late Irene (Perry) Toohey, he was born August 24, 1929, in Lowell, and grew up and was educated in Lawrence.
Mr. Toohey served with the United States Army during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Lawrence where he worked as a machinist for the Merrimack Paper Mills for forty years prior to his retirement.
A real naturalist, Dick loved animals and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time at Rockingham Park.
In 2010, he relocated to Lowell in order to be closer to his family, and he especially enjoyed taking long walks along the river.
He is survived by his children, Grace Ann Lapointe and her husband, Michael, of Salem, NH, Michael Toohey and his wife, Charlene, of Salem, NH, Kathleen Toohey of Londonderry, NH, and Elizabeth Fawcett and her husband, Bryan, of Lowell; his grandchildren, Jason Lapointe of Lawrence, and Melissa Child and her husband, Michael, of Dover, NH; his great grandchildren, Alexandria Child and Emily Child of Dover, NH; his brother, Raymond Toohey and his wife, Donna, of Methuen; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS FROM 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON FRIDAY, MAY 11, AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. HIS FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT 11 A.M. ON SATURDAY MORNING AT THE FUNERAL HOME. BURIAL IN ST. PATRICK CEMETERY.
