Thomas J. Towey, Jr.
LOWELL, MA - Thomas ‘Tom’ J. Towey, Jr., 65, was originally from the Vailsburg area of Newark, New Jersey, and made his home in Lowell, Massachusetts. He lived with his longtime friends, Marlene and Brian Buckley, and passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, after a long illness. He was the son of Agnes and Tom Towey who predeceased him.
He was a graduate of Essex Catholic High School and Seton Hall University, attaining a Bachelors Degree in Math before coming to Lowell where he was in restaurant management for the Stouffers Company. In coming to Lowell, Tom was a manager of several local establishments including Holiday Inn, A.G. Pollards, and the Press Club. After leaving these positions, he worked for Social Security in Andover up until his retirement.
Tom was an avid fisherman and enjoyed membership in the Trout Unlimited, Squan-a-tisset Chapter. He was known to tie flies for many events, and was published in Trout Unlimited's Recommended Flies Journal. He was especially involved in preserving the Nissitissit River in Pepperell, Massachusetts.
Tom was a tireless worker for Trout Unlimited and was a Past President of the Group. He will be sorely missed not only by his family but by all of his fishing friends. He looked forward to his annual fishing trip to Lakewood Camps in Maine to fish the Rapid River each year.
He leaves behind his sister, Eileen Kutch and her husband, Tony; a niece, Anne DeLaurie; a nephew, Michael Kutch; and also leaves behind his beloved cats, Tux and Tigger.
AT TOM’S REQUEST, THERE WILL BE NO CALLING HOURS. A CREMATION SERVICE AT NISSITISSIT RIVER WILL BE HELD AT A LATER DATE.
