Thomas J. Burke
"Loving Husband & Father, Purple Heart Recipient"
LOWELL Thomas J. Burke, 93, a lifelong Lowell resident and loving husband to Mildred (Silva) Burke for over fifty years, died Sunday October 14, 2012, at his home after a long illness.
Born August 6, 1919, in Lowell, he was a son of the late Thomas J. and the late Delia (McNulty) Burke, and was educated in the local schools.
Mr. Burke served with the United States Army during World War II and was a purple heart recipient.
He was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 662, Walker Rogers and a member of the Lowell Senior Center and the Salvation Army. A communicant of St. Margaret Church where he was a member of the Holy Name Society, he also enjoyed taking walks throughout the Highlands Section of the City and taking trips to Rockingham Park.
Mr. Burke worked for the City of Lowell Street Department for many years before his retirement.
In addition to his wife, Mildred, he is survived by his son, Thomas J. Burke Jr., and his wife, Catherine, of Lowell; his grandchildren, Corey Coutu and his wife, Kari, of Lowell, and Ashley Burke-Nanthavong and her husband, Onechanh Nanthavong of Lowell; and his great grandson, Nathanyel Burke-Nanthavong.
