JOSEPH SULLIVAN
LOWELL Joseph F. "Joe" Sullivan, 90, of Lowell, died after battling MS for many years Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Tewksbury Hospital. Mr. Sullivan dealt with the limits this disease put on him without complaint.
Born May 20, 1917, in Lowell, he was a son of the late Cornelius, and the late Nora (Lyons) Sullivan. He graduated from the Sacred Heart School, and Keith Academy with the class of 1935. He then graduated from Bradshaw Business School in Lowell, and later he earned his bachelors degree in Business Administration from Boston University.
Mr. Sullivan served with the United States Army as a Warrant Officer during World War II in the 7th Corps 1st Army, he participated in the Battle of The Bulge, and was among the first troops that landed at the battle of Normandy. Mr. Sullivan held membership in the Knights of Columbus, VFW Walker Rogers Post 662, the Disabled American Veterans, the BU Alumni Association, the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, and the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge Organization. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, music, and in his younger days he enjoyed cribbage. He was a good brother, and he was especially close with his sister Anna, who cared for him during his battle with MS, he was also a loving uncle to his nieces and great nieces and nephews.
He was a lifelong Lowell resident, and was a communicant of the former Sacred Heart Church, and more recently of Holy Family Parish. He was employed as a Claims Representative for the Social Security Administration in Baltimore, MD, Hartford, CT, and Lowell for over 30 years. In 1972 his illness forced his retirement.
He is survived by a sister Anna T. Sullivan of Lowell; a brother Timothy A. Sullivan of North Tewksbury; three nieces, Karen and Thomas Follett of Lowell, Mary and Joseph Pyne of Lowell, Margaret Sullivan and Joseph Mansour of Methuen; a sister in law Mrs. John (Ann) Sullivan of Lowell. He is also survived by 4 great nieces, Beth Last, Megan Smith, Courtney Pyne, and Angela Mansour; three great nephews John Follett, Christopher Pyne, Alex Mansour, and a great great niece Jaymie Last.
He was also the brother of the late Paul Sullivan, and John F. Sullivan; brother in law of the late Ann Sullivan and Alice Sullivan.
