Sophie Alex
LOWELL Sophie Alex, 90, a lifelong Lowell resident, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, January 27, 2008 at Saints Medical Center.
A daughter of the late Michael and the late Michalena (Babulavitch) Alex, she was born November 17, 1918, in Lowell, and was educated in the local schools.
For over fifty years, she made her home in the Belvidere Section of the City, and was a communicant of the former St. Joseph’s Lithuanian Church. Sophie volunteered at the Moody School assisting teachers with recess duty. She enjoyed reading, especially puzzle books, and spending time with her family. She worked at Barcy Shoe in Lowell, and then was employed by Grace Shoe as a payroll clerk, having worked for over twenty years in Lowell’s Shoe Manufacturing Industry.
She is survived by her sister, Victoria Mayo of Wayzata, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late John Alex, the late Anthony Alex, the late Jennie Alex, the late Eva Sosnowy, the late Helen Janero, and the late Victor Alex.
