Sarah C. Purcell

LOWELL        Sarah C. Purcell, 93, a lifelong Lowell resident, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at Willow Manor Nursing Home after a lengthy illness with her family at her side.

A daughter of the late Christopher C. and the late Norah (Glynn) Purcell, she was born January 6, 1924, in Lowell, and was raised in the Grove Section of the City.   She attended the local schools, graduating from Lowell High School, and attended and graduated from Tewksbury Hospital School of Nursing.

Before attending Nursing School, she worked in the local Boott Mills. After attaining her Licensed Practical Nursing License, she worked for Tewksbury State Hospital and then worked at several of the local nursing homes, including Willow Manor.  Sarah was so thankful and proud of the staff at Willow Manor for the caring, kindness, and compassion shown to her when she needed it the most.  Knowing that she was once part of the staff there, she was thankful that she was among friends in her time of need.

Sarah was a hard worker and enjoyed working, usually holding down two jobs at the same time.  She also took care of her mother for many years in addition to working.  When she had spare time, she enjoyed taking day trips with her friends. She was also a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church.

Her survivors include her sister, Rita A. Purcell of Lowell; and her many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.

She was also a sister of the late John J. Purcell, the late Christopher C. Purcell Jr., the late Francis Purcell, the late Frederick Purcell, the late Mary Theresa Purcell, and the late Edward T. Purcell.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HER CALLING HOURS 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON FRIDAY.   ON SATURDAY, HER FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 11 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.

HER FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED SATURDAY AT IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, 144 EAST ST., LOWELL AT 12 NOON. BURIAL IN ST. PATRICK CEMETERY.
