Salvatore G.'Sal' Sardella
LYNN Salvatore G. Sardella, 84, of Lynn, died Monday, November 30, 2009, at Kaplan Hospice House in Danvers after a brief illness with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Clara R. (Teixeira) Sardella who died August 6, 2002.
Born in Wakefield on April 8, 1925, he was a son of the late Salvatore B. and the late Maria Giuseppa (Nasella) Sardella. He attended the Wakefield Public Schools and worked at the Charlestown Navy Yard, prior to being drafted into military service.
A Veteran of World War II, he participated in the Normandy Invasion with the 458th Amphibious Truck Company at Omaha Beach. After a brief training period, he was then transferred to the 252nd Combat Engineers, Company A, where he participated in the construction of the Roosevelt Bridge at Wesel, Germany.
After his honorable discharge from the military, he furthered his education at Benjamin Franklin Institute and Lincoln Institute. He was employed as a structural draftsman at Jackson Moreland and General Electric Company, River Works at Lynn, MA.
Upon retirement in May of 1990, after 39 years of service, he pursued his hobby of genealogy.
Salvatore was a loving father to his sons, Donald and his wife, Iris, of Concord CA, Paul of Mesa, AZ, James of Whitehall, PA, Thomas and his wife, Bellrobin, of Lanham, MD, Robert of Danvers, Phillip of Lynn, and Norman and his wife, Maura of Billerica. He was the beloved grandfather of Sandra, Anthony, Sarah, and Matthew all of Arizona, Nicole and Samantha of Pennsylvania, Angela, Steven, and Robert of Maryland, and Derek, Brian, and Stephanie of Billerica; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded into immortality by two sisters, Rose McCadden and Mary Sardella, and four brothers, Stephen, Henry, Michael, and Joseph Sardella.
