Loving Mother and Grandmother
LOWELL Rosa E. (Silva) Mello, 90, of Lowell, died unexpectedly, Thursday, March 5, 2009. She was the widow of the late Ildefonso C. Mello.
Born September 14, 1918, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, she was a daughter of the late Joao and the late Rita Silva, was educated in that area, and came to the United States with her family in 1967, making her home in Lowell's Back Central Street Neighborhood.
For over forty years, she made her home in Lowell and was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church. Rosa enjoyed cooking, especially for her grandchildren, and looked forward to spending time with her family. Rosa also enjoyed her daily telephone conversations with her friends.
She is survived by her son, John M. Mello and his wife, Filomena, of Dracut; seven grandchildren, Rosa, Rita, Michael, Diana, John Jr., Jason, and Stephanie; twelve great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; her sister, Clarice Costa of Graciosa, Azores; her sister in law, Idalmira Silva, formerly of Lowell, her cousin, Conceicao Ribeiro and her husband, Antonio, of Lowell; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Francisco Silva and the late Idalmira Mello, and sister of the late Clemente Silva and the late Manuel Silva.
