Robert F. Lowney

"Lifelong Lowell Resident"

LOWELL Robert F. Lowney, 79, a lifelong Lowell resident, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Lowell General Hospital after a brief illness with his family by his side. He was the husband of Mary L. (Martin) Lowney, with whom he would have celebrated their Fifty Third Wedding Anniversary this year.
A son of the late Timothy and the late Alice (Hurley) Lowney, he was born July 22, 1931, in Lowell, was educated in the Lowell School System and attended Lowell Technological Institute. In his younger days, he was a great pool player, and he enjoyed deep sea fishing, and hunting. More recently he loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren, he was also an avid reader and a lover of classical music.

He made his home in the Belvidere Section of the City and was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church. He was a member of the Lowell Senior Citizens, the Portuguese American Center on Charles Street, the Holy Ghost Society of Lowell, and the Empire of the Holy Ghost of East Boston.

Mr. Lowney worked as a electrical mechanical draftsman for Raytheon, Wang, and Amkey and more recently worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Andover.

In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by his daughters, Sandra Minutolo and her husband, John, of North Chelmsford, and Carolyn Lucas and her husband, Michael, of Billerica; his grandchildren, Christine Minutolo, Melissa Minutolo, Holly Minutolo, and Nicholas Minutolo all of North Chelmsford, Megan Murphy, Brian Murphy, Patrick Murphy, and Thomas Lucas all of Billerica, Alyssa Perullo of Saugus, and Mara Chaplick and Jordan Chaplick of Haverhill; his brother, William Lowney and his wife, Barbara, of Port Orange, FL; his brothers in law, Arthur Pestana of Lowell, and John Martin of Lowell; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also the father of the late Robert T. ‘Buzz’ Lowney and brother of the late Norma Pestana.
