Rita A. Purcell
LOWELL Rita A. Purcell, 81, a lifelong Lowell resident, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018, at Willow Manor after a brief illness. Rita was the last survivor of the eight children of the late Christopher C. Purcell and the late Norah (Glynn) Purcell.
She was born February 12, 1937, in Lowell, and grew up in the Grove Section of the City, and was educated in the local schools, graduating from Lowell High School. She received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree from Tewksbury State Hospital and went on to attain her Associates Degree in Nursing from Northern Essex Community College.
Rita started at Tewksbury State Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse, furthering her education as she continued to work and retired from Tewksbury State Hospital as a Registered Nurse after over forty years of service.
She made her lifelong home in Lowell and enjoyed traveling with her friends, bowling and exercising.
A sister of the late Sarah C. Purcell, the late John J. Purcell, the late Christopher C. Purcell Jr., the late Edward T. Purcell, the late Francis Purcell, the late Frederick Purcell, Sr., and the late Mary Theresa Purcell, she is survived by her many nieces and many nephews as well as several grand nieces and grand nephews, and great grand nieces and great grand nephews.
