Ralph F. MacFadgen

LOWELL Ralph F. MacFadgen, 91, of Lowell, died Monday, July 27, 2009, at Life Care Center of the Merrimack Valley after a brief illness. He was the widower of the late Catherine G. (Degan) MacFadgen who died in 2003.
A son of the late Ralph and the late Elizabeth (Drain) MacFadgen, he was born July 23, 1918, in Lowell, and attended St. Peter’s Grammar School and Lowell High School. After high school, during World War II, he served with the Civil Conservation Corps.

He made his lifelong home in Lowell, and was a member of the former St. Peter’s Parish, and an active member of the former Sacred Heart Parish and was especially involved with the Sacred Heart Band Boosters and fundraisers. He worked as a machinist for General Electric Company in Lowell for thirty years before his retirement, and also owned and operated Quality Maintenance Company for fifteen years.

He is survived by two daughters, Ruthanne McCarthy and her husband, Nelson, of Chelmsford, and Maureen Sullivan and her husband, James, of Chelmsford; five grandchildren, Shaun McCarthy and his wife, Jill, of Westford, Brian McCarthy and his wife, Allison, of Stow, Kristin Rider and her husband, Michael, of Shrewsbury, William Sullivan of Malden, and Kathryn Bourgeois and her husband, Jonathan, of Chelmsford; four great grandchildren, Delaney McCarthy, Timothy McCarthy, Julia Rider, and Leah Rider; two sisters, Sister Elizabeth (Ruth MacFadgen) of the Trinity in Wellesley Hills, and Marion Decelles of North Chelmsford; and many nieces and nephews. Ralph’s Family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Life Care Center in Billerica for the excellent care that he received while there.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS VISITATION 9 UNTIL 10:30 A.M. ON THURSDAY, MORNING, JULY 30, AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.
