Jose Borges Dinis Ormonde
LOWELL Jose Borges Dinis Ormonde, 65, of Lowell, died May 15, 2008 at Lahey Clinic Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the husband of Maria Humberta Ormonde with whom he celebrated their 38th Wedding Anniversary last year.
A son of Maria Silveira Ormonde of Lowell and the late Manuel Caetano Ormonde, he was born August 27, 1942, in Cabo da Praia, Terceira, Azores, Portugal, and educated in that area. From 1960 to 1980, he resided in Brazil where he owned and operated butcher shops in Rio deJaneiro.
In 1980, he came to the United States to be closer to his family, settling in Lowell.
For 23 years, he worked at Market Basket as a meat cutter where he loved his work as well as his co-workers. Mr. Ormonde was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, and for 37 years was a Cursilista. He was a member of the Portuguese American Center ‘the Blues Club, the Portuguese American Civic League ‘the Reds Club’, and was a devoted member of the Holy Ghost and the Holy Trinity Societies, as well being devoted to the Virgin Mary and Santo Cristo dos Milagres.
Jose enjoyed going to Terceira to visit family and friends in the Azores, he also enjoyed gardening and loved taking care of his canaries and other birds.
In addition to his wife, Maria Humberta, and his mother, Maria S. Ormonde, he is survived by three children, Alessandra Cavaleiro and her husband, Michael, of Lowell; Alvaro "AL" Ormonde and his girlfriend, Tammy Poindexter and her daughter, Cassidy Murphy; and Anselmo Ormonde and his wife, Amy (Cheney) Ormonde of Lowell; sisters and brothers, Fernanda Dinis and, Vivelina Gonsalves of Terceira, Agostinho Ormonde and his wife, Rosa, Francisco Ormonde and his wife, Maria Ines, John Ormonde and his wife, Filomena, and William Ormonde all of Lowell; his mother in law, Maria Humberta Borges; and a brother in law, Francisco Martins and his wife, Natalina, of Terceira, Portugal; nephews and nieces, Francisco Dinis, Paul Manuel Dinis, Jose Valentim Dinis, Natalie and Paulo Ormonde Serra, Tania Ormonde, Jacqueline Ormonde, Rita and Luis Carlos Ribeiro, Ricardo Gonsalves, Jason Ormonde, Emanuel Ormonde, Valerio Ormonde, Andrew Ormonde, Graca and Roberto Leal, and Rui Martins, as well as many cousins and many friends.
He was a son in law of the late Izidro Martins, and brother in law of the late Nemezio Dinis and Antonio Gonsalves all of Terceira.
