Ofelia Tavares Horta
LOWELL Ofelia Tavares (Brum) Horta, 91, of Lowell, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at her home surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness. She was the widow of the late Manuel Horta who died in 1982.
Born June 26, 1925, in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, she was a daughter of the late Eugenio and the late Angelina (Perrier) Brum. She was educated in that area, and worked as a housekeeper in St. Michael, Portugal, until she came to the United States in 1970 with her husband.
She settled in Lowell’s Back Central Street Neighborhood, and worked as a seamstress at Paris Shoe for several years. She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, and enjoyed attending Mass there. In addition, she enjoyed music and dancing, and will be remembered as always being happy, especially when she was spending time with her family.
She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Angelina Pacheco of Lowell, Manuel Brum of Lowell, Virginio Tavares and his wife, Maria, of Lowell, Maria de Lurdes and her husband, Antonio, of Lowell, and Maria De Deus of Lowell, Espirito Santo Brum of Lowell, Francisco Brum and his wife, Lisa, of Lowell and Trindade Tavares and her husband, Duarte, of Conway, NH; as well as many, many nieces and nephews including, Diana Silva and Roberto Tavares both of Lowell, who she was very close to; and many great nieces and great nephews.
She was also a sister of the late Eugenia Brum, the late Guilhermina Silva, the late Jose Brum and the late Luis Brum.

ON MONDAY HER FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. ANTHONY’S CHURCH, 893 CENTRAL ST., LOWELL AT 11 A.M..
