Norma J. (Welch) Barrett
LOWELL Norma J. (Welch) Barrett, 80, of Lowell, passed away Monday morning, December 18, 2017 surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was the widow of the late John J. Barrett who passed away in 1973.
She was born in Lowell on February 5, 1937 and was a daughter of the late Norman Welch and the late Agnes (Hannifin) Welch. Norma was raised in Lowell, where she attended the area schools graduating from Keith Hall.
Through her life, she resided in both Lowell and Nashua. Norma was employed as a lab tech at St. John’s Hospital before retiring from Sears as a Senior Sales Associate. She loved writing long letters and cards to friends and family, dancing, especially ballroom dancing at the Commodore Ballroom. She was very artistic and loved drawing and painting. She enjoyed shopping for family and friends and was a very giving person.
She is survived by her children, John Joseph Barrett Jr. of Lowell, Michaela Barrett-Rhoades and her husband, James of Lowell, and David Barrett of Nashua. She is also survived by a granddaughter, Megan Barrett of Colorado; a sister in law, Mary ‘Jill’ Kennedy of Reading; her longtime friend, Maryanne Boss of Utah, formerly of MA; and four nieces and nephews and her Godchildren.
She was the mother of the late Neal Patrick Barrett who passed away in November of 2016, and the longtime companion of the late Henry Douglas.
ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 22, YOU ARE INVITED TO HER MEMORIAL VISITATION FROM 1 P.M. UNTIL 5 P.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.
HER FUNERAL SERVICE WILL TAKE PLACE FRIDAY IN THE FUNERAL HOME AT 5 P.M. FOLLOWING THE VISITATION.
