Nicholas Hardwood Byrd

Nicholas Hardwood Byrd, son of the late Charles Byrd Sr. and Shirley Byrd Boone, was born December 29, 1965 in West Chester, PA. When he was a small child his family moved to Wilmington, Massachusetts. Nicky, as he was fondly called by family and friends, attended Wildwood Elementary School, North Intermediate and graduated from Wilmington High School in 1986.

Although Nicky was disabled his entire life, he never ever used that as an excuse not to excel. He loved all sports, but his favorite team was the Boston College Football Team. Nicky was a family person, he loved his siblings but most of all he adored his mother. When you saw one, you saw the other.

Nicky loved to talk to anyone about anything. He read four newspapers a day and could talk to anyone from a king to a pauper. He loved to laugh and loved to make people laugh. We used to pay him to stop talking, he never stopped talking. Nicky had many jobs during his lifetime but his favorite was delivering papers with his mother.

Nicholas accepted the Lord as his personal Savior and united with the St. John Baptist Church in Woburn, MA under the leadership of the retired Pastor Larry Edmonds. He was faithful until his health began to deteriorate. He leave to cherish his memories, stepfather Nathaniel Boone; two brothers, Marty Byrd of Manchester, NH and Charles Byrd Jr. of McDonough, GA; two sisters, Vanessa Peterson-Santana of Woburn, MA and Shirley Moore of Dracut, MA; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and his church family.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS 8 UNTIL 11 A.M. ON FRIDAY, APRIL 16, AT ST. JOHN'S BAPTIST CHURCH, 38 EVERETT STREET, WOBURN, MA. HIS FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BEGIN AT 11 A.M. IN ST. JOHN BAPTIST CHURCH. BURIAL IN WILDWOOD CEMETERY. MEMORIALS IN HIS NAME TO THE SPINA BIFIDA ASSOCIATION, 4590 MACARTHUR BOULEVARD, SUITE 250, WASHINGTON, DC 20007.
