Nathaniel 'Shortie' Walker

LOWELL      Nathaniel 'Shortie' Walker, 85, of Lowell, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at Lahey Clinic in Burlington after a brief illness.   He was the widower of the late Mamie (Elmore) Walker.

    A son of the late Cleveland Walker and the late Precious Geneva (Choate) Walker, he was born November 19, 1931, in York County, South Carolina where he was raised until moving to Shelby, North Carolina where he received his education.  As an adult, he worked for the City of Shelby, North Carolina prior to relocating to Lowell in 1969 where he resided until 2005 when he moved make his home in Lexington.

     Mr. Walker worked for Wakefield Industries in Lowell from 1969 until his retirement in 1977.  He attended the Bethel A.M.E. Church in Lowell, and was a member of the Merrimack Valley NAACP.  In addition to spending time with family, he enjoyed fishing.

     His survivors include his children, Geraldine (Faye) Butler,  Jewel S. Walker, Sidney B. Walker, and Christopher A. Walker all of Hickory, NC; his fourteen grandchildren; his five great grandchildren; his sisters, Janie L. Moore and her husband, John, of Braddock, PA, and Annette Walker of Lowell; his brother in law, Rayford Brown of Shelby, NC; his sisters in law, Vernice Cannon and Sarah Cannedy both of Shelby, NC; and many nieces and nephews.

     He was predeceased by his daughter, Sandra Ramseur, his son, Terry W. Elmore, his brothers, Lester W. Walker and Elezer Walker, his sisters, Gladys (Walker) Brown,  Evelyn (Walker) Holland; his sisters in law, Willie Mae (Melton) Walker, and Nannie (Elmore) Haynes, his brothers in law, Marvin Haynes and James Cannon; his nephew, Larry C. Walker; as well as a host of relatives including his many aunts and many friends.

          YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS 9 UNTIL 11 A.M. ON TUESDAY AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. 

HIS FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD TUESDAY AT 11 A.M. AT THE FUNERAL HOME.

FOLLOWED BY HIS BURIAL IN WESTLAWN II CEMETERY.
