Monique (Sou) Muong Mak
LOWELL Monique (Sou) Muong Mak, 57, of
Lowell, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019, after a two and half year
long hard battle with late stage adenosquamous non-small cell lung
cancer at home with her family by her side. She defeated breast cancer
twelve years ago only to have a reoccurrence appearing back in the
lung. She was the beloved wife of Shawn (Sorn) Mak with whom she
celebrated their Thirty Ninth Wedding Anniversary last year in Hawaii. A
place she has long dreamed to visit.
Born April 5, 1961, in
Battambang, Cambodia, she was a daughter of the late Song Moung and the
late Sem Chea. She started her education in Cambodia before war and
genocide ravaged her home country. Through her bravery and determination
to seek a better life for her and her family, she ventured through the
jungles day and night on foot while pregnant with her first son into
Thailand and settled in a refugee camp, before getting sponsored to
settle in United States in 1984. Monique (Sou) first settled in Chicago
until 1986 when she moved to Lowell to raise her family. She became a
naturalized citizen in 2002.
Monique (Sou) worked as a machine
operator at Veryfine in Littleton for twelve years before working at
Courier, Inc, in Westford until the plant closed down in 2015.
Monique (Sou) was a faithful and dedicated Jehovah Witness and member of
the congregation of the Kingdom Hall on Pine Street in Lowell for over
twenty five years. She loved spending time with her family, friends,
and the congregation. Monique also enjoyed traveling and cooking.
Besides her loving husband, Shawn (Sorn), she is survived by her three sons, Chanthy Auric Mak and his wife, Navy, of Lowell, Anthony Bunthoeun Mak and his wife, Kimleang, of Bedford, and Brian Mak of Lowell; her three grandchilden, Benjamin, Atticus, and Soriya; her three brothers, Lantz Kimboun Moung of Chicago, IL, Rich Bunrith Moung of Atlanta, GA, and Dino Moung of Cambodia; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
