Merces E. Silva
LOWELL Mercês E. (Espínola) Silva, birth name, Maria Das Mercês Espínola, 84, of Lowell, passed away Monday night, April 8, 2013, after a long illness, peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones . She was the widow of Manuel Silva, who passed away in 1998.
Born July 24, 1928, in Graciosa, Azores, she was the daughter of the late André José Espínola and the late Maria da Glória da Silva. She grew up and attended the local schools in Graciosa. She started a family and worked as a teacher for approximately 35 years. In 1974, she and her family moved to the United States. She resided in the Back Central Neighborhood, and was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church. She worked for Altotronics in Burlington for 12 years, and retired from Wang Laboratories.
She is survived by her daughter, Isabel Chavez, and her husband, Edulfo, of Lowell; her son, Belmiro Silva of Lowell; her grandchildren, Tanya Chavez of Lowell, Ryan Chavez and his wife, Joleen, of Dracut, Eric Silva and his wife, Ana, of Lowell, Amanda Silva of Pelham; her great grand daughte,r Alina Grace Chavez of Dracut; and she is also survived by many cousins, nephews and family members.
Merces was also the mother of the late Aldora Silva, and sister of the late Dores Torres.
