Matilde Vitorino

LOWELL Matilde (Cabral) Vitorino, 80, of Lowell, died Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Lowell General Hospital. She was the widow of Joao Vitorino, who passed away in March of 2006.

Born April 17, 1929, in Sao Jorge, Azores, Portugal, she was a daughter of the late Joao D. Cabral, and the late Isabel (Luis) Cabral, she was educated in Sao Jorge.

Mrs. Vitorino came to Lowell in 1968 with her children to join her husband, during this time she was employed at Grace Shoe. Together they then returned to Portugal until 1999 when they came back to Lowell to enjoy retirement with their family.

She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church and was a member of the Holy Ghost Society. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and spending time with the family dog Frosty.

She is survived by her three children, Maria R. Fontes and her husband, Gustavo, of Sao Jorge, Azores, Portugal, John S. Vitorino and his wife, Maria, of Lowell, Filomena M. Ormonde and her husband, John, of Lowell; two brothers, Luis G. Cabral of Sao Jorge, Azores, Portugal, Alberto S. Cabral and his wife, Cultilde, of California; 8 grandchildren, Andrew Ormonde of Lowell, Rui V. Azevedo of Lisbon, Portugal, Paulo Fontes, and his wife, Yolanda, Filipe Fontes and his wife, Susana, and Emanuel Fontes all of Sao Jorge, Azores, Portugal, Jennifer Vitorino, Mellissa Vitorino, Erica Vitorino all of Lowell; 4 great grandchildren; a neice, Fatima Espinola and her husband, Val, of Tyngsboro and many other nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Jose Juvenal DaSilva, Joao Celestino DaSilva, Maria Idalina DaSilva, Fernando DaSilva Cabral, Antonio Eduardo Cabral.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HER CALLING HOURS FROM 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29. ON WEDNESDAY, HER FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL (978 OR 800) 458-6816. HER FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. ANTHONY’S CHURCH AT 10 A.M.. BURIAL IN ST. MARY CEMETERY.
