Mary D. Marr

LOWELL Mary D. (Souza) Marr, 85, a lifelong Lowell resident, died Thursday, September 16, 2010, at Willow Manor Nursing home after a brief illness. She was the widow of the late Thomas P. Marr Sr., who died in 1981.

A daughter of the late John and the late Lena (Homen) Souza, she was born September 2, 1925, in Lowell, and educated in the local schools.

She made her lifelong home in Lowell, and worked at Raytheon in South Lowell and at the former Wang Laboratories. She also owned and operated Souza's Central Cafe with her husband, Tommy.

Mary enjoyed playing Bingo and traveling especially to Hershey, Pennsylvania and Canada. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family as well with all of her friends at Willow Manor. Her family would also like thank the staff at Willow Manor, as well as Life Choice Hospice for the excellent care that she received.

She is survived by her children, Suzanne A. Marr and her fiancee, Robert Arnold, of Lowell and her son, Thomas P. Marr Jr. and his wife, Kathleen, of Lowell; her grandchildren, Kenneth Doubleday Jr. and his wife Jennifer, William Thomas Doubleday, Thomas P. Marr III, and Matthew W. Marr; her great grandchildren, Brianna Doubleday, Aleea Doubleday, Owen Doubleday, and Evan Doubleday; her sisters, Dorothy Rowe of Lowell and Rita Souza of Lowell; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was the sister of the late Florence Santos, the late John Souza Jr., the late Joseph Souza, and the sister in law of the late William Rowe Sr., and the late Edward Santos Sr.
