Martha (Abdallah) McGowan
LOWELL Martha (Abdallah) McGowan, 90, of Lowell, died unexpectedly Wednesday, May 26, at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen. Born in Lowell April 10, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Mary (Michael) and Thomas Abdallah and the widow of Charles L. McGowan who passed in 1971.
She was a graduate of Lowell High School. For the last 40 years of her life she resided in the Belvidere section of Lowell and was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church. She was employed as a tax examiner for the IRS in Andover for many years. After retiring from there she took a position as a Teachers Assistant at the Rogers School in Lowell where she worked through her early 80's. She may also be remembered by many as running the concession stand at Wyman's Beach, Westford in the 1970's.
Living independently until the very end she always had a special zest for life and enjoyed dancing and singing whenever an occasion would arise. She was an avid knitter and family members will long enjoy the many special fashion designs she created for them.
She is survived by two sisters, Edna Lovett and Selma Boumil both of Lowell; beloved nieces and nephews of Andover, Lowell, Westford, and Holden; a son, Patrick McGowan and his wife, Patricia, of Georgia; three grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren of Georgia and New Jersey.
Very special to her heart; grand nieces and nephews James, Victoria, Gregory, Rachel and Cailey.
