Mario G. Pereira
LOWELL Mario G. Pereira, 62, of Lowell, died Sunday, May 31, 2009, after a brief battle with cancer. He was the husband of Maria (Vieira) Pereira, with whom he celebrated their Thirty Fifth Wedding Anniversary this past year.
Born May 30, 1947, in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, he was a son of the late Gil R. and the late Marculina (Frazao) Pereira, and was educated and grew up in that area, working with his father on the family farm. He joined the Portuguese Army, serving as a Medic.
In 1975, he came to the United States, settling in Lowell. He was a member of the Portuguese American Civic League, the ‘Red’s Club’, where he enjoyed playing cards, and watching Benfica, the soccer team. He was known in the community for making his home made wine. A communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, he was very active in the Portuguese Community.
Mr. Pereira worked as a machine operator for Americraft, the former Prince Packaging for the past twenty three years.
In addition to his beloved wife, Maria, he is survived by a son, Mario G. Pereira and his wife, Lydia, of Dracut; two daughters, Sandra F. Pereira of Lowell, and Helena Pereira and her husband, Hector Lugo, of Lowell; five grandsons, Mario G. Pereira of Dracut, Izaiah Flores of Lowell, Xavier M. Pereira of Dracut, Gabriel E. Lugo of Lowell, and Jayden E. Lugo of Lowell; his sister, Luisa Resende and her husband, Jose, of Sao Miguel, Portugal and his twin sister, Maria R. Oliviera of New Bedford; two brothers, Antonio J. Pereira and his wife, Esaura, of Sao Miguel, and Amical Pereira and his wife, Maria, of Branton, Canada; his mother in law, Maria L. Brum of Lowell; his sister in law, Maria Silva and her husband, Fernando Silva, of Lowell; his brother in law, Jose Vieira and his wife, Maria, of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews, including his two God Children, Gualter Resende and Jose Vieira, Jr.
