Marilyn Tamayo

"Beloved Wife and Mother"

BEDFORD Marilyn (Colon) Tamayo, 53, of Bedford, formerly of Lowell, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston after a brief illness. She was the wife of Byron O. Tamayo, with whom she shared her life.

A daughter of Carmen (Rodriguez) Rivera of Lowell and the late Angel A. Colon, she was born April 26, 1957, in Comerio, Puerto Rico. She moved to the Lowell area with her family in 1968, and was educated in the local schools. She received her bachelors degree in social sciences from UMass Lowell and a degree in Cosmetology from Lowell Academy of Hairdressing. She opened the first Latin hairdressing salon in Lowell, Marilyn’s Hair Salon on Central Street in for many years.

For years she resided in Lowell before making her home in Bedford. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Byron, and her mother, Carmen, she is survived by her children, Carlos and Eneida Tamayo of Bedford; her sisters, Nitza Maynard of St. Johnsville, NY, Virginia Cifredo of Lawrence, and Maria Rivera of Lowell; her brothers, Wilfredo Villegas and Edwardo Rivera both of Little Falls, NY; her mother in law, Marlene Usuga of Lowell and her father in law, Oscar Tamayo of Lowell; her sister in law and brothers in law, Maria, Luis, Mario and Oscar Tamayo all of Lowell; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was also the granddaughter of the late Otilia Rodriguez and the late Carlos Diaz.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HER VISITATION FROM 9 UNTIL 11 A.M. ON FRIDAY AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. HER FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT 11 A.M. AT THE FUNERAL HOME. A PROCESSION WILL FOLLOW FOR BURIAL IN LOWELL CEMETERY. E-CONDOLENCE - MCDONOUGHFUNERALHOME.COM
