Maria Victoria Bettencourt
Beloved Sister and Aunt
LOWELL Maria Victoria Bettencourt, 85, of Lowell, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2016, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.
A daughter of the late Jose A. and the late Angelina de Conceicao (Ataide) Bettencourt, she was born September 4, 1930, in St. Jorge Island in the Azores, where she was raised and educated. She worked as cook in the Azores before coming to the United States in 1975, settling in Lowell.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony Church, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, cooking, and gardening. When she first came to the United States, she helped raise her niece and nephew, Suzana and Michael, to whom she would be like a second mother. She later worked at Prince Macaroni for over 12 years before her retirement.
Her survivors include her sisters and brothers, Maria Trindade Nascimento and her husband, Jose, of Lowell and their children, Maria's dear niece and nephew, Suzana Nascimento and Michael Nascimento, Serafina Morais of S. Jorge, Azores, Clemente A. Bettencourt and his wife, Maria do Rosario, of S. Jorge, Azores, Antonio Bettencourt and his wife, Valentina, of Tulare, CA, and Jose A. Bettencourt of S. Jorge, Azores; her sister in law, Filomena Bettencourt of Santa Clara, CA; and many nieces and nephews in California, Canada, and S. Jorge, Azores.
She was also a sister of the late Amelia Brasil and her husband, Jose, Manuel A. Bettencourt and his wife, Helena, and Joao A. Bettencourt all of S. Jorge, Azores and the late Jaime A. Bettencourt of Santa Clara, CA.
Maria’s family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Sunny Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Chelmsford and all the staff of Beacon Hospice of Methuen for their kind and compassionate care.


YOU ARE INVITED TO HER CALLING HOURS 4 UNTIL 7 P.M. ON WEDNESDAY.

 

ON THURSDAY, HER FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 8 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.

 

HER FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. ANTHONY PARISH, 893 CENTRAL ST., LOWELL AT 9 A.M.. BURIAL IN ST. MARY CEMETERY.
