Maria S. Ormonde
LOWELL Maria S. (Borges) Ormonde, 93, of Lowell, died Tuesday, November 6, 2012, at Radius Northwood Health Care Center after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of the late Manuel C. Ormonde who passed away in 1995.
Born October 9, 1919, in Teceira, Azores, Portugal, she was a daughter of the late Jose Silveira Borges and the late Rita (Borges) Aguiar, and was educated in that area. In 1973, she came to the United States in order to provide a better life for her family, making her home in Lowell’s Back Central Street neighborhood where she resided for the next thirty nine years. A very devoted Catholic, she was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church and spent many hours daily in prayer. She was a member of the Holy Sodality Organization, the Holy Ghost Society, and was also a member of Cruzada, a Portuguese religious order.
Maria loved spending time with her family, and especially enjoyed cooking, cleaning, and reading.
She is survived by her children, Fernanda D. Ormonde of Terceira, Azores, Portugal, Agostinho B. Ormonde and his wife Rose, of Lowell, Vivelina S. Gonsalves of Terceira, Azores, Portugal, Francisco B. Ormonde and his wife, Ines, of Lowell, John B. Ormonde and his wife, Filomena, of Lowell, and Guilherme S. Ormonde of Lowell, a daughter in law Maria Humberta Ormonde of Lowell; her brother Francisco Silveira Borges and his wife Alcinda, of Terceira; fifteen grandchildren, Frank Dinis and Joe Dinis both of California, Paul Dinis of Terceira, Alessandra Cavaleiro of Lowell, Anselmo Ormonde and Al Ormonde, Natalie Ormonde Serra, Tania Ormonde Palmer, Jacqueline Ormonde, Jason Ormonde, Emanuel Ormonde, Valerio Ormonde, Andrew Ormonde, all of Lowell, Richard Gonsalves of Terceira, and Rita Ribeiro of Terceira; eight great grandchildren; and many great grandchildren, extended family members, as well as nieces and nephews including Jose Belo of San Jose California, who always had a special place in her heart.
She was also the mother of the late Jose B. Ormonde, and the mother in law of the late Francisco Nemesio Dinis, and Antonio Gonsalves, and she was the sister of the late Albertina Belo, Manuel Martins Borges, Jose Silveira Borges, and Joao Silveira Borges.
Maria’s family would like to thank the staff of Northwood Rehabilitation Center for the years of compassionate care Maria received.
