Maria L. (Meneses) Areias
LOWELL Maria L. (Meneses) Areias, 78, of Lowell, died Oct. 18, 2008 at Fairhaven Nursing Home. She was the widow of the late Manuel L. Areias who died in 1991.
Born October 12, 1930, in the Azores, Portugal, she was a daughter of the late Jose Luis Meneses and the late Maria (de Lourdes Avila) Meneses. She grew up and was educated in that area, coming to the United States in the early 1970’s, settling in Lowell in the Back Central Street area.
She worked for the former Wang Laboratories as an assembler until her retirement, and was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church.
Her survivors include her daughter, Betty Cabral and her husband, Thomas, of Lowell; her son, Jorge Manuel Nunes formerly of Lowell; her grand daughter, Kimberly Kavigian and her husband, Stephen, of Lowell; her sister, Maria Liduina Meneses of the Azores; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Raul Nunes.
