Maria Gorreti Picanco

LOWELL Maria Gorreti Picanco, 53, of Lowell, passed away due to pneumonia, Monday, March 3, 2014, at Lowell General Hospital-Saints Campus.

A daughter of Luzia (Guadeloupe) Picanco of Lowell and the late Manuel C. Picanco, she was born September 16, 1960, in Terceira, Azores, Portugal, and grew up in Terceira. At a young age, she moved with her family to Johannesburg, South Africa before coming to the United States in November of 1977, making her home in Lowell for the past thirty seven years.

She enjoyed watching television, especially Spanish Soap operas, dancing, and loved coffee and bread.

Besides mother, Luzia, she is survived by her sisters, Agueda Rombeiro and her husband, Heli, of Dracut, and Filomena Dias and her husband, Daniel, of Lowell; her aunts and uncles, Luis Sousa and his wife, Celina, of Chelmsford, Maria Sousa, of Lowell, Rafael Sousa and his wife, Fatima, of Chelmsford, and Camilo Sousa and his wife, Antoninha, of Graciosa, Azores, Portugal; her nieces and nephews, Edward Manuel Rombeiro of Dracut, Mark P. Rombeiro and his wife, Amy, of Merrimack, NH, Jimmy S. Dias of Lowell and Jessica S. Dias of Lowell, her great nieces and great nephews, Marcus J. Rombeiro, Alexis S. Rombeiro and Sophie M. Rombeiro all of Merrimack, NH and Damien A. and Haley T. Bristow both of Lowell; she is also survived by many cousins, as well as her friends at All Care Adult Day Health Center.

She was the niece of the late Joao Sousa.
