Maria G. Silva

"Beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother"

LOWELL Maria G. Silva, 96, of Lowell, died suddenly, Monday, October 24, 2011, at Radius Northwood Health Care Center with her family at her side. She was the widow of the late Aprigio V. Leite who died in 1990 after 51 years of marriage together.

Born December 16, 1914, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, she was a daughter of the late Jose Mendonca and the late Rosa Silva Mendonca, and was raised and educated there. She made her home in the Azores and raised her family there until 1995, when she came to the United States, settling in Lowell.

She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, and when she wasn’t spending time with her family, enjoyed sewing, gardening, and cooking.

She is survived by her daughters, Hermogenia Espinola and her husband, Osvaldo, and Maria L. Leite and her husband, Manuel A. Camara, all of Lowell; her five grandchildren, Gene Espinola and his wife, Lisa, of Tyngsboro, Maria McGary and her husband, Bill, of Lowell, Richard Espinola of Boxford, Marisa Salvakumar and her husbnd Pradeep, of Reading, and Pedro Camara and his girlfriend, Heather Gearin of Lowell; four great grandchildren, Cortney Espinola and Kyle Espinola of Tyngsboro, Sachi Salvakumar of Reading, and Kaileigh Camara of Lowell; her sisters, Georgina Silva and her husband, Joao, of Lowell, and Arcelinda Bettencourt of Toronto, Canada; her brothers, Reinaldo Mendonca and his wife, Almerinda, of Toronto, Canada, and Francisco Mendonca and his wife, Alda, of Graciosa, Azores, Portugal; and several nieces and nephews. The family would also like to thank the nurses and staff at Radius Northwood for the care and concern they showed to Maria while she was a resident.

She was also the sister of the late Francisca, the late Clarimundo, the late Cidalia, the late Manuel, and the late Terezinha.
