Maria (Dias) DeSousa
LOWELL Maria (Dias) DeSousa, 91 of Lowell, passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, August 7, 2020 at Northwood Rehabilitation Center in Lowell. She was the widow of the late Antonio DeSousa.
She was born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal on November 20, 1928 and was a daughter of the late Ipolito and the late Rosa Dias. She was raised and educated in Guadalupe, Graciosa. In 1963, she relocated to the United States, settling in Lowell, with her husband and their six children to raise their family.
She resided in the Central Street area, was a communicant of St. Anthony Church, and was a member of the Holy Ghost Society. She was employed at MCF in Lowell for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Maria is survived by her sister, Lena Cavaca of Graciosa, Portugal; her sister in law Theresa, Dias, her six children, Manuel Sousa and his wife, Kay of Hudson, NH, Mary Felix and her husband, Antonio of Pelham, NH, Zulmira Leal and her husband, James of Dracut, Norberto Silva of the UK, Jose DaSilva and his wife, Suzanne of Dracut, Linda DaSilva and her husband, Joe of Dracut.
Maria is also survived by her 13 grandchildren, Kris Carroll and her husband, Brian of Hudson, NH, Manny Sousa Jr. and his wife, Tiffany of Hudson, NH, Lorrie Chiappetta and her husband, Mark of Westford, Darlene McSorley and her husband, Jeremy of Lowell, Melissa Leal and her fiancé David Daly of Lowell, Brian Felix and his wife, Stacy of Lowell, Tanya Pontes and her husband, Bobby of Lowell, Joshua DaSilva of Dracut, Samantha Espinola and her husband, Joshua of Dracut, Garrett Winn of Lowell, Jennifer Griffin of Palm beach Gardens, FL, AJ DaSilva of Lowell, and Lexi DaSilva of Lowell.
She also leaves behind her 13 great grandchildren, Hayley and Megan Sutherland, Gabby and Brody Sousa, AJ and Julianna Chiappetta, Jasper Nadeau, Anastasia Felix, Sebastian DaSilva, Ava Pontes, Kennedy Daly, Olivia McSorley, Robert, Olivia Griffin, and Greyson Espinola; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Northwood Rehabilitation Center and Hospice for the wonderful and loving care they gave our mom.
