Maria Brum
LOWELL Maria (Loudres) Brum, 84, of Lowell, died Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at Saints Medical Center after a brief illness. She was the wife of Jose Brum, with whom she celebrated their Thirty Eighth Wedding Anniversary last year.
A daughter of the late Victor and the late Rosa (Jesus) Cabral, she was born January 3, 1926, in Azores, Portugal, and grew up in that area and while in Sao Miguel was well known for playing the guitar and singing. She came to the United States in 1972, settling in Lowell with her family.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, and enjoyed sewing and baking cakes. She worked as a packer for Commadore Foods until they closed. She then worked for Old Mother Hubbard until her retirement in 1987. Maria always enjoyed helping those in need, including two African children she sponsored.
In addition to her husband, Jose, she is survived by three children, Maria Pereira of Lowell, Jose Vieira and his wife, Maria, of Lowell, and Maria Silva and her husband, Fernando, of Lowell; six grandchildren, Mario Pereira and his wife, Lydia, of Dracut, Sandra Pereira of Lowell, Helena Pereira and her husband, Hector Lugo, of Lowell, Jose Vieira and his wife, Melanie, of Dracut, Theresa Vieira of Lowell, and Jessica Vieira of Lowell; six great grandchildren, Mario Jr. and Xavier Pereira, Izaiah Flores, Gabriel, and Jayden Lugo, and Cameron Vieira; as well as many brothers and sisters in Sao Miguel Azores, and also many nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother in law of the late Mario Pereira who passed away May 31, 2009.
