Maria B. Sousa
LOWELL Maria B. Sousa, 87, of Lowell, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Saints Medical Center in Lowell. She was the widow of the late Raymond D. Sousa who died in 1973.
Born on Madeira Island, Portugal, she came to the United States in the Forties, settling in Lowell.
She made her home in the Highlands Section of the City for over fifty years, and was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church. She worked as a tailor out of her home for many local tailor shops.
Maria is survived by her daughter, Celeste (Sousa) Jorge and her husband, Jose, of Lowell; her grand daughters, Anamaria Jorge of Lowell and Maria Gilberta Jorge also of Lowell; her sisters, Arlinda Dias of South Africa, and Gertrudes Gouveia of New Bedford; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the Gabriel Sousa.
