Maria Alice Sousa
TYNGSBORO Maria Alice (Calvao) Sousa, 65, of Tyngsboro, died Tuesday, February 12, at Tufts New England Medical Center after a brief illness. She was the widow of the late Virgilio A. Sousa who died in 2004.
A daughter of the late Americo and the late Maria (Do Carmo) Calvao, she was born September 26, 1947, in Chaves, Portugal and was raised and educated there. She worked as a medical secretary for a local hospital in Portugal before coming to the United States in 1986. She settled in Worcester until 1987 when she moved to Lowell where she made her home for more than twenty years.
A communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, she enjoyed spending time with her family, helping to raise her grandchildren, and also enjoyed cooking especially for her family.
She had worked at Joan Fabrics for sixteen years before retiring.
She is survived by her daughters, Ana C. Sousa and her husband, Joseph, of Tyngsboro, and Fernanda Ashe and her husband, John , of Tewksbury; her grandsons, Nicholas A. Sousa and Zachary A. Sousa both of Tyngsboro; her sisters and brothers, Felisbina Do Carmo Calvao and her husband, Alberto, of Portugal, Francisco Calvao and his wife Vitalina, of Portugal, Henrique Calvao and his wife, Marilia, of Portugal, Joao Calvao of Paris, France, and Delfina Borges and her husband, Silvino, of Portugal; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also a sister of the late Domingos Calvao and sister in law of the late Ana Calvao.
