Manuel ’Serafin’ DaSilva
LOWELL Manuel “Serafin” DaSilva 86, of Lowell, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017, after a brief illness at Radius Northwood Health Care Center with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband to Malvina (Bettencourt) DaSilva, with whom he celebrated 61 years of marriage this past July.
He was born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal on June 5, 1931, son of the late Serafin and Maria Augusta DaSilva. In 1974, he moved his family to the United States and settled in Lowell. For over 40 years, he made Lowell’s Back Central neighborhood his home where he was a communicant of St. Anthony Church. He was also a member of the Portuguese American Civic League, the Portuguese American Club and the Holy Ghost Society.
He was a machine operator at Majilite until his retirement in 1996. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, tending his garden, especially his grapes, winemaking and watching his favorite soccer team, Benfica.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons Sidonio Silva of Lowell; Jose Silva and his wife, Carrie of Pelham, NH; five grandchildren Christopher Silva, Erica Silva and Derek Silva all of Lowell and Samantha Silva and Shawn Silva both of Pelham, NH and great grandchildren Jaiden Mercado and Ryan Silva both of Lowell.
He is also survived by two sisters, Maria (DaSilva) Reis of Terceira, Azores, Portugal and Irin (DaSilva) Fernandes of Graciosa, Azores, Portugal and his sister-in-law Maria Elena Lima of Lowell; and was the beloved uncle of several nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Arnoldo DaSilva and the son-in-law of the late Manuel Bettencourt and Gracumild Bettencourt.

HIS FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. ANTHONY CHURCH, 893 CENTRAL ST., LOWELL AT 10 A.M..
