Manuel "Roldao" DaSilva
TEWKSBURY Manuel "Roldao" DaSilva, 73, of Tewksbury, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Lowell General Hospital-Saints Campus surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Lionilde (Conde) Silva with whom he would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this coming June.
He was born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal on August 4, 1944 and was a son of the late Manuel DaSilva and the late Luzia (Candida) Silva. He was raised in Graciosa where he attended the area schools. He served with the Portuguese Army in Angola. In 1969, he came to the United States with his wife, settling in Lowell to start a family. He was employed as a Machine Operator at Malden Mills for over thirty years.
A communicant of St. Anthony Church, he was an avid soccer fan, especially of SCP, the Sporting Club of Portugal, and was a member of the Portuguese American Club ‘The Blues Club’ and the Portuguese American Civic League ‘The Reds Club’, as well as the Holy Ghost Society, the Holy Trinity, and the Portuguese American Veterans Association. Manuel enjoyed tending to his garden, watching Portuguese novellas with his wife, taking trips to Foxwoods, as well as scratch tickets, his favorite thing to do was to spend time with his grandchildren and family.
In addition to his beloved wife, Lionilde of Tewksbury, he is survived by his children, Mary Silva and her husband, Jose, of Dracut, Alcinda Porter and her husband, Shawn, of Lowell, and Manuel Silva and his wife, Sabrina, of Lowell; his grandchildren, Katelyn and Brandon Silva, Amber and Cameron Porter, and Aiden and Areanna Silva; his sisters, Mary Grout of Tyngsboro and Lucilia Silva and her husband, John, of Tewksbury; his Godchildren, Glorinda Medeiros of Dracut, Steven Silva of Lowell, Lucilia Dinis of Lowell, and Joao Manuel Silva of Tewksbury; his brother and sisters in law, Alcinda Silva, Maria Silva, Odete Silva, Sabino Figueiredo; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was predeceased by his brothers Isalino Silva, Vital Silva, Januario Silva, Antonio Silva and Eurico Silva. He was also a brother in law of the late Thaddeus Grout, Maria Figueirdo, Jeronima Conde, Manuel Conde, and Quelminda Conde.
