Manuel E. Mendonca
LOWELL Manuel E. Mendonca, 82, of Lowell, died Thursday, April 22, 2010, at his home after a brief illness. He was the widower of the late Alvarina (DaLuz) Mendonca who died in July 2000.
A son of the late Jose Espinola daSilva and the late Luzia Candida Mendonca, he was born September 1, 1927, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, and educated in that area. While in Portugal he worked as a stone mason in the construction industry before coming to the United States in 1969, settling in Lowell.
He made his home in the Back Central Street Neighborhood, and was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church. He enjoyed staying at home and working in his garden as well as spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed music, especially “dancas do carnaval”.
He worked for Commodore Foods prior to his retirement.
He is survived by his many nieces and nephews, as well as many Godchildren including, Maria Silva and her husband, Isalino, of Canada, Nuno Mendonca of Canada, Cesar P. Correia of Lowell, Manuel U. Teles and his wife, Brenda, of Lowell, and Felipe Teles of Lowell; his caretaker, Paulo J. Correia of Lowell; and grand nieces and grand nephews and friends.
He was also a brother of the late Cerino Espinola daSilva.
