LOWELL Manuel C. ‘Manny’ Bettencourt, 76, of Lowell, died Sunday, March 4, 2012, at his home after a brief illness. He was the husband of Isabel (Avila) Bettencourt, with whom he celeberated their 52nd Wedding Anniversary last year.

Born March 28, 1935, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, he was a son the late Jose M. and the late Frances E. (Camara) Bettencourt. He was raised and educated in Pico. He was a farmer in Pico before coming to the United States on February 13, 1971, with his family, settling in Lowell.
Mr. Bettencourt worked for Prince Macaroni, and then worked for Pellon which later became Frudenburg. He retired after twenty one years of service. He was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church.

Family was everything to Manny, and he enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed tinkering with things, finding out how things worked. He also grew grapes to make his wine, and loved animals, keeping many animals here to remind him of his farm in Pico.
