Manuel A. Picanco
LOWELL Manuel A. Picanco, 79, of Lowell, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, December 12, 2014. He was the husband of the late Leontina T. (Espinola) Picanco who passed away in 1996.
Born August 29, 1935, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, he was a son of the late Miguel Picanco, and the late Rosa Picanco. He grew up and was educated in Graciosa, and continued his education through his years in the United States.
He came to the United States in 1967, settling in Lowell. He began working in local shoe shops in Lowell, until he became an electrician. For many years he worked in that field in the Lowell area. He enjoyed reading, studying astronomy and fixing things, especially electronics.
He is survived by his children, Luis Picanco of Lowell, Roberta and her husband, Jose Luis Francisco of Pepperell, and Rose Picanco of Townsend; his grandchildren, Luis Picanco Jr, Gabriel Francisco, and Manuel Francisco all of Lowell; and five great grandchildren, Mason, Haley, Jakoby, Dominic, and Claudia. He is also survived by two sisters, Maria Bettencourt of Dracut, and Caterina DaSilva of Pelham; and two brothers, Alziro Picanco and Michael Picanco, both of Lowell.
He was the brother of the late Valentim Picanco.
