Madeline M. Silva

LOWELL Madeline M. (Silva) Silva, 91, of Lowell, passed away Thursday evening after a long illness peacefully with her children by her side. She was the widow of the late Martin Silva. She made her lifelong home in Lowell and was a communicant of St Anthony's Church.

A daughter of the late Francis C. and the late Mary (Espinola) Silva, she was born November 29, 1918, in Lowell, educated in the local schools, and graduated from Lowell High School and Lowell Commercial College.

As a young woman, she worked at the Department of Education in Boston before her marriage. She was a Chairperson of the Lowell Republican City Committee and President of the Republican Women’s Club as well as Chairperson of the Lowell Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
Madeline cherished time with her husband of 61 years as well as with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Madeline was well known as an avid collector. She and Martin were well seasoned travelers and enjoyed a lifelong love of recreational boating.

She is survived by her three children, Eleanor Silva and her husband, Herbert Becker, of New York City, NY, Laura Lee Silva and her husband, Dr. John Burke, of Lowell, and Martin Silva and his wife, Marie, of Falmouth; seven grandchildren, Robert Becker of Concord, Nicole Becker Ment of New York, Attorney John Burke of Maine, Martin Burke of Lowell, Laura Lee Studley of Cambridge,and Madeline Silva and Annmarie Silva of Falmouth; seven great grandchildren, Mason Burke and Nora Burke of Maine, Emmett Studley of Cambridge, True Becker and Tate Becker of Concord, and Alexander Ment and Madeline Ment of New York City, New York; her sisters, Laura Rindo of Florida, Eleanor Nastasia of Lowell, and Mary Harrington of Lowell; and several nieces and nephews.
