Luis S. Silva
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather

LOWELL Luis S. Silva, 78, of Lowell, died after a brief illness with his family by his side Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington. He was the husband of Madalena (Silva) Silva with whom he celebrated 56 years of marriage this past year.

Born April 25, 1934, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, and he was a son of the late Manuel Silva, and the late Francisca (Augusta) Silva. He worked as a farmer, raising cows, before coming to the United States in 1974.

He resided in the Back Central Street neighborhood for over 30 years, and was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church. Luis was employed as a landscaper for Vesper Country Club in for about 7 years before his retirement in 1995. He enjoyed gardening, which was his favorite hobby. He loves spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his beloved wife, Madalena, he is survived by his daughter, Alzira Silva and Osvaldo Bettencourt of Tyngsborough; his two sons, Jose Silva and Helena Silva of Lowell, and Louis Silva and Isabel Carvalho of Fairhaven; five grandchildren, Steven Silva and his wife, Elizabeth of Lowell, Jason Silva and his girlfriend, Sarah Lussier of Dracut, Eric Silva and his wife, Jennifer of Townsend, Shana Silva and Kayla Silva both of Lowell; a great grandson, Dylan Silva of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews that he loved very much.

He was also the father of the late Maria Madalena Silva, the late Manuel Luis Silva, and the late Nelia Maria Silva. He was also the brother of the late Manuel Silva, the late Jose Silva, and the late Maria Mendonca.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS FROM 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 20. ON THURSDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. HIS FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. ANTHONY'S CHURCH, 893 CENTRAL STREET AT 10 A.M.., FOLLOWED BY BURIAL.
