Loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother
LOWELL Lucia M. (Silva) Espinola, 70, of Lowell, died Sunday, April 3, 2011, at her home surrounded by her family after a three year battle with cancer. For over fifty years, she was married to Albino Espinola.
Born October 9, 1940, in Graciosa, Acores, Portugal, she was a daughter of the late Joao G. and the late Florenca (Gil) DaSilva and grew up and was educated there. In 1974, she came to the United States with her family, settling in the Back Central Street Neighborhood of the City. She worked for the former Wang Laboratories and for Joan Fabrics, retiring in 2006.
A communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, she enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers, as well as knitting. Her favorite past time was spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her loving husband, Albino, she is survived by her two daughters, Hirondina "Dina" Koch and her husband, David, of Lowell, and Vera Lobao and her husband, Luis, of Lowell; her ten grandchildren, David Koch, Nathan Koch, Luke Koch, Jacob Koch, Peter Koch, Paul Koch, Hannah Koch, and Elijah Koch, Tony Lobao, and Craig Espinola; her brothers, Manuel Silva and his wife, Paulina and Tomaz Silva and his wife, Lucia, all of Toronto, Canada, and her sisters, Guiomar Silva of Graciosa, Ondina Goncalves of Lowell, Celeste Chavez of Toronto, Canada; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was also the mother of the late Albino Espinola who passed away in 2004 and Herondino Espinola who passed away in 1965, and sister of the late Velma Pacheco and the late Ana Pacheco.
