Eliodoro 'Leo' Silva

Former President of the Red's Club

LOWELL Eliodoro 'Leo' Silva, 59, of Lowell, died unexpectedly Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Saints Medical Center. He was the husband of Fatima DaSilva for 38 Years.

He was born July 21, 1952, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, and was a son of the late Joseph C., and the late Georgina (Bettencourt) DaSilva, and brother of the late Joseph G. DaSilva. Leo grew up in Graciosa, before moving to the United States in the late 1960's and attended the Rogers School in Lowell.

He resided in Lowell and was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church. He was employed as a car salesman for many years in the Lowell area, most recently for Gervais Lincoln Mercury in Lowell. Leo was a soccer enthusiast, especially for the Sporting Soccer Team and he enjoyed playing cards. He was a lifelong member and former president of the Portuguese American Civic League also known as the 'Red's Club,' as well as a member of the Holy Ghost Society.

In addition to his wife, Maria, he is survived by his three beloved children, Steven DaSilva, Sharon DaSilva, and Debra DaSilva all of Lowell; seven cherished grandchildren, J.P., Steven, Sean, Scott, Joey, Delina, and Ryan DaSilva all of Lowell; a godson and nephew, Jonathan DaSilva of Lowell; three additional nephews, Nathan DaSilva, Joshua DaSilva, and Nicholas DaSilva all of Lowell; an uncle, Francisco Bettencourt and his wife, Olga of Lowell; and a brother in law, Antonio Aguiar of Lowell. He is also survived by his cousins, his beloved companion, Beatrice Tavares and her family, and many friends.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS FROM 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 9. ON SATURDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.
