Robert R. ’Bob’ LaPlante
DRACUT Robert LaPlante, 68, of Dracut, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Edith Nourse Rogers Veterans’ Hospital in Bedford after a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Andrea (Dupre) LaPlante, with whom he would have celebrated their Forty Fourth Wedding Anniversary this coming August.
Born April 20, 1948, in Lowell, he was the beloved son of Rita (Sevigny) LaPlante of Dracut, and the late Joseph LaPlante. He was raised in Lowell and educated in the local schools, graduating from St. Joseph’s High School. He then graduated from Bryant Macintosh College in Lawrence.
After college, Mr. LaPlante served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War in the Engineering Corps. receiving the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, two Overseas Bars, the Army Commendation medal, and the Sharp Shooter Badge. He was honorably discharged and returned to Lowell, working at Commodore Foods for many years. He then worked for Wang Laboratories until 1992 when he became affiliated with EBS, and later MCS until his retirement.
He made his home in Dracut and was a communicant of Ste. Marguerite D’Youville Parish in Dracut. Bob enjoyed bowling, playing cards, camping, cutting wood, movies, day trips, and traveling with family members, but the thing that brought him the most joy was just being with and spending time with his family, especially at family gatherings.
Bob was well known for his helpfulness and generosity. He was truly selfless and always put the needs of others before his own.
Besides his wife, Andrea, and his mother, Rita, he is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Stuart and her husband, Greg, of Chelmsford, Cheryl Dubois and her husband, Christopher, of Dracut, Cathy Abreu and her husband, George, of Lisbon, CT, and Michelle LaPlante of Dracut; his grandchildren, Gabrielle, Amber, Quintin, Joshua, Zachary, Benjamin, Saydee, Madalyn, and Khalan; and many aunts, cousins, friends, and extended family.

HIS FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT STE. MARGUERITE D’YOUVILLE PARISH, 1349 LAKEVIEW AVE, DRACUT, AT 10 A.M..
