Kathleen F. ‘Kay’ Daly
LOWELL Kathleen F. ‘Kay’ Daly, 87, a lifelong Lowell resident, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Willow Manor Nursing Home after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family.
A daughter of the late Walter and the late Ethel (Geary) Powers, she was born December 16, 1925, in Lowell, grew up in the Highlands Section of the City, and was educated in the local schools, graduating from Lowell High School where she was a Girl Officer.
A lifelong Lowell resident, she was a member of the former Sacred Heart Parish where she was a member of the Ladies Sodality, and was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church.
In addition to raising her six children, Kay worked as an assistant tax examiner for the Internal Revenue Service for more than twenty years before her retirement.
Spending time with her family, primarily with her granddaughters was her favorite pasttime. She also enjoyed reading, vacationing at Hampton Beach with her family, and was a sports fan following the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.
She is survived by her five children, her loving son and caregiver Gerald T. Daly of Lowell, Maura L. Daly of Dracut, Karen Silva and her husband, Raymond, of Lowell, Patrick T. Daly of Lowell, and Michael T. Daly of Lowell; a sister Judy Riemer, of California; a special niece Lynne McInerney of Florida, and a daughter in law Nancy Daly of Lowell, and sister in law Shirley Powers of Chelmsford. Her granddaughters, Kerri (Silva) Rouillard and her husband, Ryan of Lowell, Megan (Silva) Martinez and her husband, Manny, of Lowell, and Katie Daly of Lowell; her great grandchildren, Aidan, Sean, Nate, and Will Rouillard, and Ray, Layla, and Mikey Martinez of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, John C. "Jack" Daly; her former husband, John Daly Sr.; her sisters, Mary McInerney, Brenda Fergola, and Ethel Merritt; and her brothers, Walter "Buddy" Powers and William Powers.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Willow Manor, and also the Lowell VNA Hospice Program for their compassion and care during this difficult time.
