Julia J. Rocha
LOWELL Julia J. (Santos) Rocha, 83, of Lowell, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Saints Medical Center after a brief battle with cancer with her family by her side. She was the widow of the late Henry ‘Doc’ Rocha who died in 1990.
A daughter of the late Anthero and the late Rose (Espinola) Santos, she was born September 19, 1925, in Lowell, and was educated in the local schools.
She made her lifelong home in Lowell, and was also a lifelong communicant of St. Anthony’s Church. A member of the Red Hatters Social Club, the Lowell Senior Center, and the Holy Ghost Society, her favorite past time was spending time with her family. In addition, she took pleasure in being a foster parent for many years, and enjoyed dancing, knitting, and crocheting. Julia owned and operated her own hairdressing salon in Lowell, and worked as a hairdresser throughout the area for over fifty years.
She is survived by her children, Henry R. Rocha Jr. of Lowell, Robert R. Rocha and his wife, Carol, of Lowell, Anthony J. Rocha and his wife, Laura, of Dracut, and John G. Rocha and his wife, Barbara, of Lowell; fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; her daughter in law, Mary Rocha of Dracut; lifelong family friend, Roger Hamilton of Hudson, NH; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late Deacon Richard Rocha and great grandmother of the late Alexandria Rocha.
