Jovita Garcia

LOWELL        Jovita Garcia, 98, of Lowell, died after a brief illness at Sunny Acres Nursing Home, on Saturday, July 29, 2017. She was the widow of Manuel Garcia who passed away in 1975.

She was born on March 13, 1919, in Spain, and was a daughter of the late Facundo Oliva, and the late Maria Alvarez. At a young age her family relocated to Cuba, where she was raised and educated. She came to the United States, with her children and newborn granddaughter, in 1962, settling in Lowell.

Most recently, she resided in the Highlands and was a communicant of St. Patrick Church. Jovita worked for Prince Macaroni and Grace Shoe until her retirement in 1985. She was a very talented seamstress, specializing in embroidery and cross stitching. She loved cooking and enjoyed preparing meals for family, neighbors, and friends. Her gardens brought her a great deal of joy. It was not unusual to stop by the house early in the morning and see her smiling face tending to the flowers. More than anything, she enjoyed taking care of all the people she loved. She played an instrumental role in helping to raise both her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When you arrived at her home, you were always greeted with a warm hug and a smile, and made to feel that you were the most important person in the world.

She is survived by her son, Jose Manuel Garcia Oliva of Manhattan, her daughter, Dr. Maria Cuesta of Lowell, her grandchildren, Beatriz Cuesta Curley and her husband, Jeffrey Curley, of Westford, Michael Cuesta and his wife, Megan Smith Cuesta of Mexico City, Mexico, Robert Cuesta and his wife, Heather Lunn Cuesta, of Lowell, her great grandchildren; Molly, Andrew, Benjamin, Julia, Matthew and Gabrielle. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HER FUNERAL MASS ON THURSDAY AUGUST 3, AT 10A.M. AT ST. PATRICK CHURCH, 282 SUFFOLK ST, LOWELL, MA.

BURIAL WILL BE HELD PRIVATELY.
