Josephine P. Matthews

LOWELL Josephine P. (Doyle) Matthews, 90, of Lowell, died pecefully Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Heritage Nursing Care Center. She was the widow of the late Raymond F. ‘Dutchie’ Matthews who died in 2003.
A daughter of the late John and the late Alicia (O’Neil) Doyle, she was born March 18, 1920, in Andover, and grew up and was educated in that area, graduating from St. Mary’s High School in Lawrence.

Josephine was a homemaker, but during World War II, she helped in the War effort on the home front working at Tyre Rubber in Andover. While she was working at Tyre Rubber, her future husband was fighting in World War II at Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal with the U.S. Marines. After her marriage to Dutchie, they briefly settled in South Lawrence before making their home in the Highlands Section of Lowell since February of 1958, where she was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church. Her favorite pasttime was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Charles R. Matthews of Lowell; her daughter, Marylou Beausoleil and her husband, Robert, of Lowell, her grandchildren, Timothy M. Beausoleil of Lowell, Michael R. Beausoleil of Lowell, and Erin M. Beausoleil of Lowell; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also a sister of the late Margaret Grant, the late Rose Milne, and the late Charles Doyle.
The family takes this opportunity to thank the dedicated staff at the Heritage Nursing Care Center for their kindness.
